So it begins...

Over the last few days I've been madly trying to sort out everything I need to. Finish the packing, clean the house, make sure nothing is left that I need, binning the old cloths and un-important items. All of which I should have started significantly earlier than I did, and, as normal, left myself with far less time than I required to completed all the required tasks. I managed to successfully finish all of my required work tasks however, which for me is a somewhat unique and different side of me that I've not seen before!

With the end of work having been and gone and the manic preparations to get everything ready in time having been somewhat successfully crammed into the last 3 or 4 days of my time in Melbourne it is time to begin thinking about the travels ahead! Although I've been out and about in the city a few more times than I care to count and most definitely stayed out drinking for much longer than I should have done I'm starting this trip with less energy than I had anticipated!

I've have a fantastic few days saying farewell to the awesome people I've met in my 13months of Australian life and all of which will be missed (and hopefully reading this!?! If not, I am muchly disappointed, not you will know!).

We spent last night packing what we hope is the essentials and all we will need into the back of the car/wagon and realising we had far more space than originally expected. Inevitably we hit a point where by we decided anything goes and managed to fill the car with a far few un-needed and unimportant bits of equipment, like unused and needed mattresses from the double bed we happily removed from the back of the car on the first day we got it (It was some exceptionally badly assembled....thing anyway). I expect, no, I hope that these additions to our collection will be "lost" along the first few days of our travels for a few reasons, mainly the weight! When we head out and into the dessert we will be carrying 115 liters of liquid which will have a huge impact on the fuel consumption, so less is better with excess weight!

With the car set and the work side of life finished for both of us, all thats left is to embark on upcoming 3 weeks of what can only be described as an exceptional opportunity for travelling, which will come with many stories and experiencing never to be forgotten by any!

Let the adventures begin...
